The Commonwealth dates back to the mid 20th century with the decolonisation of the British Empire through increased self-governance of its territories. It was formally constituted by the London Declaration in 1949, which established the member states as “free and equal”. The symbol of this free association is the British Monarchy who is the Head of the Commonwealth. The Monarchy is also the monarch of the members of the Commonwealth, known as Commonwealth realms.

In 2017 the UK left the European Union due to popular demand, and finding themselves suddenly isolated from the community of the content it had taken for granted, the UK turned to its historical allies. With renewed interest from the UK in the Commonwealth, diplomatic friendships strengthened and with them came stronger trade deals and closer military co-operation and commonality.

With the economical, social and political failure of the majority of the African states, despite loud and vocal protests by the international community, the world was silently breathing a sigh of relief and looking the other way as South Africa, strengthened by the empowered Commonwealth, took control over most of eastern and central Africa over the next 20 years, and by the 2040’s, , the new South African territory had flourished and in turn further strengthened the South African state.

The consolidation of the Americas in the early 2060’s and the establishment of the Chinese Hegemony soon after, left the Commonwealth consisting of Canada, the UK, India, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. In response to the rising power of the Chinese Hegemony, the member states clamoured for greater unity and closer scientific and military ties. This lead to the creation of a federal monarchy in 2068, with the British Royal Family sitting as symbolic head of each member state individually but assuming the role of federal president with an elected ruling party and prime minister. This democratic arrangement didn’t last long however and a inconclusive election in 2076, coupled with a popular support for the aristocracy and 8 years of ineffectual rule paralysed by political infighting, led to the elected rulers being replaced by appointed members of the royal family. Thus began a modern feudal government structure, with the supreme ruler being retitled the Emperor King/ Queen and taking the surname Imperator, and local rulers being Kings and Queens, with elected politicians still act as advisor and the “voice” of the people. The philosophy of Government by Consent became enshrined in the education of future rulers as well as in the Oath Of Service the new rulers had to swear upon taking power.

The first unified action of this new federal Commonwealth came soon after its inception. In 2079 the Commonwealth pooled its considerable resources and sent a fleet of probes out to the Asteroid Belt to bring back asteroids, the first of which arrived in earth orbit 2085 and the vast resources immediately ushered in a new golden age for the people of the Commonwealth. With the rest of the world planning to build massive orbital habitats to counter the chronic overpopulation, a treaty, known as the Lagrangian Exodus Treaty, which assigned the 5 Lagrangian Points to the 5 superpowers for the purpose of building orbital colonies was signed in 2091. The Commonwealth was given the L4 point and immediately began to move huge quantities of people out to the the newly constructed and relocated habitats, which had been under construction since the first asteroids begun to arrive in orbit.

The current (2117) Emperor King of the Commonwealth of Nations is His Federal Majesty, Emperor King Maximilian George William Imperator and the Heir Apparent is Princess Alexandria Catherine Elizabeth Windsor.
